A population is not a workforce.

The mainstream account needs a large, sustained workforce. This page follows the demographic filters: families, age, sex, farm labor, village operations, support duties, and replacement over time.

What this page checks: It asks whether the claimed workforce can find enough usable labor while the village still mills, bakes, brews, cleans, carries, cares, guards, supplies, and replaces people over decades.
Why prime-age males? It means adult, physically fit men available for sustained work. The paper uses 24% as a high, generous planning share.
Where are women? The labor claim being tested is male-scoped. Women remain in the village economy: household support, caregiving, textile work, milling, brewing, and food processing.

How many workers were actually available?

The model tests a range of population estimates. It starts at 1.6 million, a standard Old Kingdom comparison figure, and also checks a higher 2.0 million case. The slider also shows a 2.5 million edge case, which is outside the model's main Old Kingdom range.

The Giza Workers' Village: Heit el-Ghurab

Heit el-Ghurab, “Wall of the Crow,” is the Giza worker settlement excavated and published by Mark Lehner and AERA. It is claimed to have housed those who worked on the pyramid and their families. The model uses that mainstream worker-village evidence as the capacity comparison, then tests it against the labor and support population the account requires.

A worker village cannot run on construction workers alone. Every day, other people have to turn supplies into meals, move water, clean waste, care for households, and keep basic order.

The point: the model does not add these jobs twice, but it also does not let them disappear. If people doing village work are moved into construction, someone else has to replace that work.

Could the workforce be renewed for 20 years?

The claim is not just a one-day headcount. If the project lasts decades, the labor system has to keep replacing workers while the rest of Egypt still needs men for farming, army service, temples, trade, and administration.

Why the one-in-eight number matters

This is not one draft for one season. It is a new pull from the next generation every year, for one project, before the kingdom would have staffed any of its other work.

What this test is saying

The model does not say “there were no workers” or “families could not exist.” It says the mainstream claim has to pass through the same demographic filters every real population faces.

At the default setting, one pyramid draws 54,142 scheduled ex-farmer workers from a 76,800 non-farm male labor pool. That is 70.5% of the pool, before the kingdom also staffs army, temples, administration, trade, security, and other work.

When the workforce is converted into settlement and support population, the current partial footprint reaches 483,769 project-dedicated people. Families are not just mouths to feed. They are part of the operating system of the village: food processing, water handling, cleaning, caregiving, textile and household work, container circulation, and replacement over time.

The model handles this carefully: village operations are not counted twice, but they are not allowed to disappear either.

"Just count everyone"

Counting the whole population hides the filter. Children, elderly people, farm labor, household labor, and other state duties cannot all become pyramid labor at the same time.

"Use women and children"

That can be tested only by naming which jobs change and pricing the household, caregiving, textile, milling, brewing, food-processing, water, supervision, and replacement work they leave behind.

"Use soldiers or guards"

Soldiers come from the same prime-age cohort. Moving a man from army to monument changes the label, not the demographic draw.
